Diagnostic Importance of the Carhart Notch in Patients with Chronic Otitis Media

Objective
 The false sensorineural loss caused by otosclerosis
 due to stapes fixation is known as the Carhart notch.
 To examine changes in air-bone gap (ABG)
 and bone-conduction (BC) hearing thresholds by
 comparing preoperative postoperative
 audiometry results patients with chronic otitis media
 (COM), investigate effects of air conduction
 (AC) on BC, determine improvement AC detect presence
 notch COM, the
 surgery Material Methods
 A total 104 who underwent type 1
 tympnoplasty between January 2012 - March 2017
 our clinic were included this retrospective study.
 Parameters measured during and
 postoperative sixth month audiometric evaluation
 comprised at frequencies
 250-8,000 Hz, BC 500-4,000
 ABG values 500-4,000 Hz intervals.
 Results
 Before surgery, was present in
 46 (44.2%) patients. Postoperatively, observed have been corrected
 25 (54.3%) these (p=0.029).
 Conclusion
 After tympanoplasty, significant ABG
 may lead 2,000 COM
 cases an intact mobile ossicular chain. The
 also be COM.
